Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Lymington and District Naturalists' Society.

The society was founded in 1946 when a group of people from the Lymington area put forward a plan to establish a bird sanctuary on the marshes between the Old Rifle Butts on the sea wall and Hurst shingle bank. Nowadays the local nature reserve extends from Hurst to Lymington and is featured on our LINKS page. You might also find the LINKS page useful for there a host of local, county, and in some cases national, natural history websites are only a click away.

We hold two indoor meetings a month at Lymington Community Centre on a range of natural history subjects through the winter months - see the INDOOR MEETINGS page.

Field meetings, which take place predominantly in the beautiful New Forest and along the adjacent coastline, are held throughout the year - see FIELD MEETINGS page for locations and times. No previous knowledge is required, just an interest in the natural world.

Also across the top of this WELCOME page you see reports of recent field trips under the LATEST REPORTS heading. Past reports can be found in the ARCHIVE section and copies of our twice yearly NEWSLETTER can be found in their own section as downloadable PDF files.

Annual membership is just £15 per person but visitors are welcome to both walks and talks for a contribution each time of £5 (indoors) or £3 (outdoors). A downloadable Membership application form can be found on the MEMBERSHIP page.
